BURNT WOOD ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT

Burnt Wood is located approximately four miles north-west of Newport off the minor road at Porchfield. The main gate is at Grid Reference SZ 445923.

It is leasehold woodland of 47 hectares, owned by the Territorial Army and managed by the Forestry Commission.

Its key features are a landslip SSSI, poor access, an exposed location and a high Red squirrel population. The lease prohibits recreation and access.
